Geologically speaking, the India carton formed when it broke away from pangea during the Jurassic period about 160 million years ago and then separated from Gondwana 125 million years ago.

According to consensus in modern genetics, anatomically modern humans first arrived on the Indian subcontinent from Africa between 73,000 and 55,000 years ago.

In the early second millennium BCE , president drought caused the population of the Indus valley to scatter from large Urban centers to villages. Around the same time, Indus - Aryan tribes moved into the Punjab from region further northwest in several waves of migration.

The name INDIA has ancient origins, intially named after the river SIND and then etymological morphing to 'Hind' or 'Inde' and then to India.

• India has been mentioned in Arabic Persian, Roman and Greek texts from 350 B.C. .

• In 350 B.C. , the Greek traveller Megasthense visited India, and a translation of the first paragraph of his book reads as "India, which is in shape quadrilateral,has its eastern as well as its western side bounded by the great sea, but on the northern side it is divided by Mount Hemodos (Himalayas) from the part of Skythia."
